Diary of a caffeine-free Easter

Thursday
Leave work in a cloud of paperwork. Tell self that self will find time to complete said paperwork over long weekend. Feel like a rum and coke would be great but choose to satisfy self with beer. Aah, sweet, liquid amber.

Friday
Go to BFF's parents' house for lunch before heading down to Port Elliot for Easter shenanegans. Offered tea but politely decline in favour of water (the funnest drink around!). Gratefully accept offer of alcohol. Delightful, if not detoured, trip down. Some disappointment at lack of blueberry icecream out of Mt Compass but feel suitably revived by vanilla and boysonberry flavours in Goolwa. Arrive at Port Elliot YHA, spend suitable amount of time oohing and aahing at the interior of the building. Beautiful polished floors throughout and light and airy rooms. The common areas look slightly like Ikea threw up in there (but in a good way). Shopping expedition to supermarket for breakfast products. Purchase Cadbury's chocolate-coated marshmallow bunny for BFF for Easter Sunday - only caffeinated buy for shopping expedition. Stop in at Hotel Elliot for tea. Every item on dessert menu looks awesome but contains chocolate, even if only as a garnish. Thank god for the apple pie on the specials menu, which comes with a lovely vanilla bean ice cream. Retire to hostel patio with beers and awkwardly eavesdrop on what seems to be a very private conversation. On the upside, am now aware of the issues involved in attaining a permanent residency visa.

Saturday
Awaken to discover that all of our (clearly labelled as per management request) food has been stolen from the fridge. Including the beer. BFF saddened to discover that this includes her mallow bunny. Crave a morning cup of coffee but satisfy self with hot cross buns. On to the touristy stuff. Visit multiple markets, a car boot sale and three secondhand bookshops  but choose to wait outside rather than entering the Melba's choc/croc store. Feel need to purchase baked goods to make up for lack of seasonal chocolate goodness. Successfully bypass all caffeinated temptation at pub for tea, though do have to fight cravings for rum and diet coke. Possibly reunite with carbonation a little too much.

Sunday
Discover that I may love carbonation but the bubbles don't return the feeling. BFF kindly refrains from eating chocolate goodies in front of self but reliably informs that I burp in my sleep. Feel all kinds of sorry for the people I'll be sharing rooms with on backpacking holiday later this year. Get through entire Easter Sunday without looking at chocolate and again politely refuse offers of hot beverages.
